WELCOME TO THE VILLAGE OF NORTH RIVERSIDE, ILLINOIS
Respectfully known among its residents and neighbors as "the small community with a big heart", North Riverside exemplifies the progressive characteristics and retail strength of much larger villages. North Riverside embraces and nurtures the precious familiarity and genuine compassion of its rural roots - scarce municipal traits in the 21st Century. An ideal place to live, work and visit, the Village of North Riverside is home to exceptional police, fire, public works, recreation and library services. The Village also has noteworthy schools and houses of worship, an Illinois Army National Guard base, the newly renovated North Riverside Park Mall, the prestigious Illinois St. Andrew Society and the Riverside Golf Club.

LIVING HERE, VISITING HERE
Formally incorporated in 1923, the Village of North Riverside's roots date back to just after the Civil War. Then, its first residents were comprised of onion farmers and members of the Riverside Holiness Association. It was also home to the legendary Melody Mill ballroom of the Big Band era. Today, the community of 6688 residents is made up of active senior citizens and young families who enjoy the many benefits and quality of life in North Riverside. Such benefits include senior clubs, a quilting club, a thriving theater group, scouting and sports programs, as well as a state-of-the-art ball field complete with a sophisticated tornado and lightning alert system. North Riverside's Village Commons, the hub of all Village Departments, administrative offices and recreational events, ranks among the most beautifully executed green spaces in the western suburbs. The Commons features a pond and fountain, walking path, picnic areas, tot play area and its most-recent centerpiece - a gazebo dedicated to courageous men and women of the American Armed Forces.

WORKING HERE
North Riverside's 2.5 square miles is home to some of Chicagoland's best-know retailers, such as Joe Rizza Ford, Castle Pontiac-Buick-GMC, Edward Don & Co., Kohl's and North Riverside Park Mall. The Mall employs hundreds of area residents in its stores and includes notable anchors Sears, Old Navy, JC Penney and Carson Pirie Scott. Other retail giants in the area include Best Buy, Burlington Coat Factory, Jewel Food Store, Steve & Berry's and Tony's Finer Foods. These businesses, combined with smaller specialty stores, not only provide countless employment opportunities, but also round out the myriad of one-stop shopping options available. North Riverside's close proximity to major thoroughfares and highways make it accessible to the Chicago and outlying suburbs.

LEADING THE WAY
Mayor Richard N. Scheck and the Village Board have demonstrated profound foresight in governing the Village through the past decade and into the 21st Century. They have earned much-deserved national and statewide accolades for financial management, goal achievement, communication with residents and businesses, and genuine dedication to the health and well-being of the North Riverside community.

The Neighborhood Services program, which regularly links neighbors to neighbors, is demonstrated by "random acts of kindness", which have impacted countless lives by adding comfort, security, peace of mind and an outstretched hand. Its annual youth scholarship and its recently implemented Handyman programs (a partnership with retailers and Riverside Township), further drives home the Village's dedication to its residents of all ages.

Recently, North Riverside earned statewide recognition for its generosity from the American Cancer Society for having "the most successful event in the Region's 33-year history by raising over $250,000". Of the 42 communities from DuPage County to the City of Chicago, North Riverside stunned its neighbors and ACS representatives with this record setting event total. Since its inception, "The Betty Scheck Walk for Cancer has allowed us to do a tremendous amount of work toward eradicating cancer and eliminating cancer suffering", elaborated Laura Robson, Regional Vice President. "North Riverside has set a new standard for giving."
