Crime
Prevention Unit
Crime prevention is "the anticipation, recognition and appraisal of a
crime risk and the initiation of some action to remove or reduce it."
There are two key elements of a crime: desire and opportunity. Desire is part
of human nature and somewhat inherent in us all. Opportunity is the element
where we can have the greatest impact. Crime prevention is opportunity reduction.
The North Riverside Police Department is totally committed to minimizing the
opportunity for crime through proactive crime prevention programs and encourages
and solicits active community support in this effort.
Officers
assigned to the Crime Prevention Unit work cooperatively with coworkers, schools,
community groups, businesses, volunteer organizations and individual citizens
to provide effective crime prevention strategies and promote community relations.
