Quick Tips on How to Avoid Receiving a Violation

  • Stop at the marked stop line. If there is no marked stop line, stop before entering the crosswalk. If there is no crosswalk, stop before entering the intersection.
  • Once you have stopped for a red light, do not proceed through the intersection until the light is green and the intersection is clear.
  • If you are making a right turn on red, you must come to a complete stop and yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before completing your turn.

What a Complete Stop Is

A complete stop means there is no forward momentum to your vehicle, and the needle on the speedometer is at 0 miles per hour. A rolling stop means your vehicle's wheels are still in motion, and your vehicle is moving less than 5 mph. Failing to come to a complete stop when required to by signs or signals is a violation of Illinois traffic law.

Boot Program

If your vehicle was impounded due to a Wheel Lock (unpaid parking tickets), you must go to the Records Division at the North Riverside Police Department and pay all unpaid parking violations in full along with any associated Wheel Lock fees.

Once the tickets are paid, you will receive a release form. Bring the release form with you to Nobs Towing to pick up your vehicle. Your vehicle will only be released once you pay the yard's towing and storage fees.

Administrative Towing & Impoundment of Vehicles Following Detention of the Driver

If you are the driver or owner of record of a vehicle that has been towed and impounded by the North Riverside Police Department for an alleged violation of Village of North Riverside Municipal Code 1.30, which allows for the seizure and impoundment of vehicles used in connection with certain alleged crimes and holds the owner of the record liable for an administrative penalty in the amount of $500.

In order to have the vehicle returned, the driver or the owner of the record must obtain a release from the North Riverside Police Department by paying the administrative penalty or posting the bond in the amount of $500, in addition to any and all towing and storage charges to the towing company.
