Business License Requirements
Businesses operating within the Village of North Riverside should contact the Village's Administrative offices to inquire whether a business license is required. Business licenses expire on December 31st and must be renewed annually.
All businesses licensed within the Village must also be registered with the Illinois Department of Revenue and issued an Illinois Business Taxpayer Identification Number (IBT#).
Annual Inspections
Fire Inspections
The North Riverside Fire Department conducts an annual fire prevention inspection at all multi-family dwellings and commercial businesses located within the Village. This inspection is necessary to ensure continued compliance with applicable fire prevention codes and to facilitate awareness of fire safety issues in public or common areas. The inspections are automatically performed on a rotating schedule throughout the calendar year.
Invoices for the cost of the inspection are generated to all multi-family property owners in June of every calendar year. Commercial businesses are invoiced for their respective fire inspection fee as part of the business license renewal process each year. All fire inspection fees must be paid by their respective due dates regardless of when the actual inspection is conducted during the calendar year.
Sign Inspections
The North Riverside Building Department inspects all permanent signs located throughout the Village for compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Inspections are conducted during the months of February and March of each year at a cost to the property owner. Commercial businesses are invoiced for their respective sign inspection fee as part of the business license renewal process each year.
Elevator, Escalator & Lift Inspections
The Village of North Riverside contracts an outside third-party company to conduct semi-annual inspections of all elevators, escalators, and lifts located within the town. Inspections are conducted during the months of January and June of every year at a cost to the property owner. Commercial businesses are invoiced for their respective elevator/escalator/lift inspection fees as part of the annual business license renewal process.
