Prescription Drug Program
North Riverside residents may safely dispose of unused/expired prescription or over-the-counter medication through the Village’s Prescription Drug Drop Off Program. No liquids, inhalers, creams, ointments or lotions are accepted

Car Seat Installation
The North Riverside Fire Department offers free car safety seat inspections on an appointment basis only. Technicians will check your car seat for safety and proper installation. Please call 708-447-1981 to make an appointment.

Ambulance Service
The North Riverside Fire Department provides Emergency Medical Services to residents and visitors of the Village 24 hours a day. The Department operates a fully equipped paramedic ambulance which is staffed by 2 full-time paramedics.

Safe Haven-Abandoned Infant Protection
This is intended to provide a mechanism for a newborn infant to be relinquished to a safe environment and for the parents of the infant to remain anonymous if they choose and to avoid civil or criminal liability for the act of relinquishing the infant.

BE ALARMED! Smoke Alarm Installation
Illinois has a Smoke Detector Act(425 ILCS 60/) which addresses the requirement for smoke alarms. Every single family residence shall have atleast one approved smoke detector installed on every storyof the dwelling unit, including basements but not includingunoccupied attics. The North Riverside Fire Department,together with the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance and IllinoisState Fire Marshall, wants you to “Be Alarmed!” byproviding education materials and 10-year sealed batterysmoke alarms to residents of all ages to help reducethe number of fire-related injuries and deaths in thecommunity. “To date, we have already installed 347 smokedetectors in North Riverside,” said Chief McDermott and we’re hoping that anyone who needs a working, properlyinstalledsmoke alarm in their home or has questions willreach out to us.
